Are you sick of being stuck in the start-stop cycle of insanity when it comes to weight loss or fitness? What if I could tell you the one thing that is keeping you stuck in this loop and could shed light on how to move forward? Sound good? Awesome, because today I am doing just that.
Today we’re going to get all of you out there who struggle to break what I call the start-stop cycle of insanity. I am going to tell you the key to breaking through this cycle so you can start and sustain a healthy lifestyle that is going to get you the physique you are looking for. So, today I am covering:
- What the start-stop cycle of insanity is.
- The key to ending this cycle once and for all.
- The secret to success in weight loss (and anything else in life).
I spent years in the start-stop cycle of insanity. I would get fed up with my weight, find the latest program that sounded like it would get the results I wanted, enroll, and start. I’d do great for a while and within 1-2 months I’d hit a wall or life would happen and I would let it throw me off and then I’d give up. This went on for years. I didn’t know how to get out of it.
Finally, learned that my biggest issue was that I was too focused on “getting skinny” in the least amount of time possible. I thought it was a matter of sheer will. I told myself I just need to suck it up and endure this thing long enough to get the weight off. So, in other words I was short-sighted. Not only was I short-sighted but there was a massive error in my thinking, which was that it is a finite process; as if you get the weight off and then that’s the end. I was also completely oblivious to the one thing that was key to starting and sustaining weight loss.
Fortunately, I figured it out. I started at the heaviest I’d ever been. I was struggling with a terrible body image, stress, adrenal burnout, anxiety, and depression. I was at my rock bottom mentally and emotionally and each time I started and stopped I just felt worse. Finally, I found the key and I lost over 55 pounds and transformed my body. I’ve established and maintained a healthy lifestyle and healed my burnout, anxiety and depression without medication. So, let’s dive into what changed and how I did that.
- What the start-stop cycle of insanity is.
It is basically what I described a few minutes ago. You decide you want to accomplish something, in this case your weight or physique. This occurs at a very low point about that thing, at which time you’re fed up and ready to do something. You go in search of a solution, in this case a diet and exercise program. You pump yourself up and you enroll and get started.
You’re going strong for a few days, maybe weeks, then you run into a wall of some sort. Something happens that interrupts your routine you are in the midst of establishing. This is when your mindset kicks in and starts telling you all the limiting beliefs and stories as to why this won’t work. You start to feel defeated or overwhelmed and throw in the towel and stop.
After some time, you are confronted again by your current situation, how unhappy you are with it. You decide you want to change it. You go out looking for a solution. Rinse. Repeat.
People repeat this over and over because they fail to see the one thing they are missing. - The key to ending this cycle once and for all.
Awareness that in order to achieve what you want, in this case lose weight, you have to change you. You have to be a different version of you now. We tend to think we will be a different version when we accomplish that thing. But this is the definition of insanity isn’t; to repeat the same thing over and over and expect a different result?
If you want to reach that goal – or lose that weight and change your body – YOU have to change first. This starts in the mind. - The secret to success in weight loss (and anything else in life).
You must have a mindset for success and this requires you to work on your mindset first and foremost. Without a shift in your mindset you are going to continue repeating the start-stop cycle of insanity. First, recognize that you think this is about sticking to diet perfectly or working out as hard and as long as you can stand it every day, but this is false information. This is not it.
Diet and exercise is almost irrelevant if you don’t have the right mindset. Of course, these things do matter when it comes to losing weight and maintaining it, but you cannot successfully implement and sustain without the right mindset. I have several other episodes about how to shift your mindset, so I am not going to repeat all that today. However, I will tell you the primary things to focus on: connect with why you want this (the emotions/the feelings of having it), set clear intentions, set clear goals, commit to the process of change.
So, these are the underlying things keeping you stuck in the start-stop cycle of insanity and the keys to breaking free and getting those results you want. I speak from experience and this is what I am on a mission to help other women and moms do, make and sustain lasting change. It is a process, and it takes time and consistency, but most of all, it takes you committing to your own greatness.
